President-elect George Weah found the curtain raiser in a match leading to his inauguration as President of Liberia.
The game, which ended 2-1 in favor of Weah All Stars against the Armed Forces of Liberia, saw spectacular soccer display with the President-elect scoring the first goal for his side.
The match was played under a good sportsmanship with scores of government officials in attendance including Weah’s wife, Mrs. Clar Weah and son, Timothy Weah.
Speaking following the end of the game, Weah said soccer is something that he cannot forget about on grounds that he came from the football field; and as such, he will remain a part of the game, regardless of his topnotch position as President of Liberia.
“We are here because I came from the field; it is my route that I cannot forget about even as President. I will remain the people’s servant; they are my people,” he said.
Meanwhile, Weah is urging all Liberians to keep the peace that they are enjoying today.
He maintained that the opposition can do the same to have the country safe and stable for all.
The President elect made the statement on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Barclay Training Center (B.T.C) after a friendly soccer match as part of his inauguration activities.
