…Cllr. Musa Dean Describes UP Lawyers
By A. Omaska Jallah
As hearings into claims of irregularities and electoral fraud continue at the National Elections Commission, Cllr. Musa Dean has described the Unity Party legal team led by Cllr. Varney Sherman and other collaborating political parties as mere fishermen that have no evidence to substantiate their claims.
Cllr. Dean, lead counsel for NEC said the complainants are applying delayed tactics to deprive citizens of their rights to vote after they have overwhelmingly spoken through the ballot box.
In counter-argument to claims made by the Unity Party and others, Dean stressed “these are fishermen with no claims; is like a student who is to sit a test but did not study, that student will pray for the school building to get on fire.”
He argued that lawyers representing the interests of political parties against the NEC do not have evidence to substantiate their claims, emphasizing that they must rethink their tactics of delay.
The ongoing investigation grew out of complaint file by the Liberty Party against the NEC. Liberty Party is claiming that the October 10, 2017 Presidential and Legislative Elections were characterized by massive frauds and irregularities.
