Some citizens of Sinoe County Electoral District # 1 have pleaded with Geeplaye Nyenswah, a prominent son of Butaw District, to contest the district representative seat during the October 2017 elections.
Mr. Nyenswah was petitioned at a colorful ceremony in his native Butaw District. The ceremony attracted hundreds of citizens from Sinoe County District # 1 and other districts in the county.
The citizens including elders, young and women groups asked Mr. Nyenswah to contest the 2017 elections, because according to them, Sinoe County District # 1 is being under represented at the Legislature.
The district is currently being represented at the Legislature by Rep. Jefferson Karmo.
But, the citizens claimed that he (Rep. Karmo) has failed massively. They highlighted some of his failures and made specific reference to his refusal to speak against the violation of their rights by some concessionaires.
In their petition statement, the citizens assured Nyenswah of their unflinching support during the ensuring elections, if he accepts their petition.
They disclosed that their decision is based on Nyenswah’s contributions to the district including the provision of scholarships for less fortunate students and young people.
They indicated that Nyenswah’s advocacy has resulted into the construction of clinics, schools and the rehabilitation of bridges along the route linking Sinoe with Monrovia.
In response, Nyenswah accepted the petition and said he would be a contender in the election.
He lauded his kinsmen for recognizing his contributions to the district and asked them to manifest what they said through their votes in October.
Nyenswah asked the people to join him campaign for votes throughout the district when campaign opens.
He pleaded with his kinsmen to work collectively for peace and development in Sinoe County.
