The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Health and partners have signed the Global Compact for aid effectiveness with Health Minister stressing the need for partners to be accountable.
Speaking Thursday at the signing ceremony during the close of the three days Health Financing conference, Dr. Bernice Dahn said partners are under obligation to be transparent and accountable on how they expend funding in Liberia.
The Health Minister said in many cases, the government does not know on what and how partners spent funding they received for Liberia.
Dr. Dahn said it is important for partners to exhibit high degree of accountability and transparency relative to the usage of funding in Liberia.
The Health Minister said over 40 percent of health partners funding that come to Liberia do not go through the budget but directly to partners who expend by the money without the knowledge of the government.
However, Minister Dahn said the signing of the aid effectiveness compact will enable partners to align every project to the government thereby ensuring accountability and transparency.
For his part, the Senior Health Specialist at the World Bank Group, Shunsuke Mabuchi lauded the Government of Liberia for demonstrating its commitment to transparency and accountability by signing the compact.
He called on partners to demonstrate commitment to transparency and accountability as well.
