University of Liberia Mass Communication Professor Alhaji G.V. Kromah is seeking for an automatic citizen status to be granted Fula speaking people residing in Liberia.

He said he would submit a bill to the legislature to grant Fulani citizen status.

Prof. Kromah, who is currently President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf's Ambassador-At-Large, contends that the Fulas are historically one of the country's indigenous tribes; and therefore, they should be recognized as the 17th tribe of Liberia.

Fulas are group of people spread over many countries, predominantly in West Africa, but also found in Central Africa and Sudan, North Africa.

The countries in Africa where Fulani are present include Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea, The Gambia, Mali, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Niger, Togo, the Central African Republic, Ghana, Liberia, and as far as Sudan in the east.
