…In Margibi County
Following two months of hot pursuit of 22 convicted criminals who broke jail at the National Palace of Correction in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, early October, the Liberia National Police Monday re-arrested the 18th 'run away man' in Margibi County.
An LNP statement identified the escapee as Daniel Clement, alias John Rambo. He was among 22 convicted prisoners who escaped from the Correction Palace. The Emergency Response Unit (ERU) has since re-arrested 17 of the prisoners but two died from bullet wounds after they reportedly exchanged gunfire with the police.
The criminals reportedly took single barrel guns and other deadly weapons from hunters as they escaped from the correction palace.
However, the statement, signed by Police Spokesman Sam Collins, indicated that Daniel Clement was re-arrested en route to Bong County. He was serving a prolonged sentence for Rape and Burglary prior to his escape.
Four of the 22 criminals including notorious Lewis Kennedy are still at large as the LNP has already declared Kennedy as a wanted man.
Meanwhile, the Liberia National Police say it is not indebted to its former officer Inspector Abraham Duplay.
The LNP clarified that Inspector Duplay resigned as an officer after he was reinstated.
On May 27, 2008, Inspector Duplay was suspended for time indefinite for alleged misconduct which contravenes Article III, section I of the Police Duty Manual.
A statement said Inspector Duplay was sent to court and later returned with a court's clearance against allegations and was subsequently reinstated.
“On December 29, 2011, surprisingly to the leadership of the Liberia National Police, Inspector Duplay resigned and the LNP acknowledged the resignation of inspector Duplay on February 14, 2012,” the Police said.
