 ...After 10:00 P.M.
Just two weeks into the 10:00 P.M. curfew imposed on motorcyclists, at least three motorcyclists have been arrested with a single barrel gun and four live bullets. They were picked up after 10:00 P.M. by police officers on patrol.

The Liberia National Police recently announced a regulation restricting the movement of motorcycles after 10:00 pm on grounds that most of the crimes especially arm robbery were being facilitated by motorcyclists.

The Police claimed that statistics in their possession shows that about 75 percent of arm robberies are facilitated 'pen pen' riders.

However, the motorcyclists who spoke to this paper following the police's restriction on them said the LNP was not saying the truth. They requested the police to check within their ranks for criminal facilitators and should not shift blame for their inability to fight arm robbery.

What seems to a really the police's claims, has been manifested with the arrest of three motorcyclists in possession of firearm.

Police Deputy Senior Inspector for Operations Patrick Sudue said “this is not intended to restrain the movement of people; if the motorcyclists are posing some security threat, then we have to put in place measures to curtail it”.

Those arrested by the Police at the Mount Barclay Check point include 18-year-old Adolphus Walker, Junior Zonoe, 20 and Oliver Marshal, 37.  One of the suspects is said to be at large with a bag containing several items.

Deputy Commissioner Sudue said the arm was already loaded as the suspects were advancing to an arm robbery scene when the police received an intelligence on their movement.

“They are motorcycle riders and they are carrying arms; these are the problems that we face during our patrols; the motorcyclists transport criminals” Sudue said.

Although the suspects admitted being in possession of the fire arm, but claimed the gun was meant for their personal protection.

The Deputy Senior Inspector called on the community to inform Police whenever they observed any strange movement in their neighbourhood.
