Internal Affairs Minister Blamoh Nelson says the exclusion of opposition from the governance of a country is a factor for conflict.
He said power, greed, corruption, nepotism and exclusion of opposition from governance were factors believed to have contributed to the prolonged civil war in Liberia.
Minister Nelson indicated that the inclusion of opposition in the governance process is important for the growth and development of a given society.
Speaking at the MICAT press briefing Thursday, Minister Nelson attributed the prolonged civil unrest in the country to the absence of opposition politicians within previous government.
Minister Nelson, speaking on the topic: 'the roadmap to reconciliation and decentralization', said no single political institution is capable to govern the affairs of any nation.
“You think a single political party can govern Liberia? Well, if you want to sustain peace, then there is a need to include opposition politicians in your government,” he suggested.
Minister Nelson stressed the need to decentralize the government because, according to him, the government has been centralized for decades and the Unity Party led administration was working tirelessly in that direction.
He said the country is in transition, and so there was no need for confusion amongst Liberians.
The MIA boss added that it was about time Liberians turn hatred into love and begin the process in helping to rebuild the country damaged infrastructures.
He said the government is making strides in areas such as economic reforms, judicial reforms and governance reforms, among others.
Commenting on the decentralization plan by his ministry, he said they are trying to implement the national policy on decentralization, streamline local government structures and begin the process of the national identification registry.
He disclosed that there has been no clear roadmap for the decentralization policy and the national identification registry. He noted that policies on these areas have just been formulated and it was being worked on.
