….In Lofa County

Bad’ road condition is said to be impeding normal business activities in Lofa County. Lofa is believed to be Liberia’s bread basket.

According to our reporter who just returned from the county, the road linking Zorzor to Voinjama has become inaccessible to commercial and private vehicles, thus preventing citizens from transporting their goods to Monrovia.

Commercial and other vehicles taking the risk to get to voinjama were seen stocked in the mud for several weeks. Some business women who spoke to The NEWS said the situation was uncontrollable and requires the intervention of government.

The business women said they were losing thousands of dollars on a daily basis because their produce were spoiling due to the bad road.

 Ms. Korpo Kollie, a market woman who said she spent four days on the road with her goods, wants the Public Works Ministry to quickly consider the paving of the Lofa road as a priority.

She said the bad road condition is posing serious danger to the lives of market women.

Ms. Kollie expressed fear that if nothing is done to address the bad road problem, the county would be completely cut off from the rest of the country.

She indicated that the pronounced plan by government to pave the Lofa road seems not to be a reality.
