Emmanuel Shaw Gets Honorary Doctor Degree

The Board of Trustees of the AME University conferred an Honorary Doctor Degree of Humane Letters (HLD) Honoris Causa on Mr. Emmanuel L. Shaw, II, during it commencement convocation Wednesday.
In the citation, the Board of Trustees of AMEU said its decision to confer an honorary Doctor Degree on Mr. Shaw was in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, leadership, civic and community services to Liberia.
The AMEU Board recalled Mr. Shaw's advocacy role and advancement of job creation for the people of Liberia.
“At the end of the Liberia civil conflict, which saw the total destruction of infrastructure and institutions, you were appointed in 1996 to head a special commission to reform and revamp the entire banking system of Liberia; among other accomplishments in banking, you further superintended the drafting and enactment of a comprehensive financial institutions act, the law under which all banks now operate in our country,” AMEU Board of Trustees cited.
It recalled that having completed the reform process of the banking sector, Mr. Shaw was again appointed by the President as Chairman of the Financial Sector Reform Secretariat with mandate to re-organize and reform the entire financial sector.
The AMEU Board of Trustees said “one of your major accomplishments during your tenure as head of the Secretariat was to design, print, and issue a new national currency for Liberia, the Liberty which we continue to use today as our legal tender; and the organization and establishment of a new Central Bank for Liberia.”
In the citation, the Board said Mr. Shaw who is one of Liberia's most successful entrepreneurs has founded, organized and operated many business entities over the years that have contributed to the creation of jobs for Liberians.
