Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair Tuesday visited Liberia declaring that the country has great prospect, considering what the country has achieved under government's targeted priorities.

He said over the years, the government under the leadership of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has made tremendous progress in moving the country in the right direction.

“When one takes a step back and see where this country was and where it is now, you can say that Liberia has made tremendous progress,” Mr. Blair stressed.

He said government's new agenda in which it is targeting power, port, roads and other social services are specific projects that would drive Liberia's development thereby creating economic growth which would lead to jobs creation. Former Prime Minister Blair noted that it is time for donors to get behind the Liberian government by supporting its projects.

He said donors must not target projects that are not priorities of the government.

Mr. Blair said if donors support government's projects, Liberia would achieve its developmental drive.

He said his institution, African Governance Initiative (AGI), which is working with government to enhance its governance system, would support it to implement its priorities.

Earlier, the President lauded Mr. Blair for his support through AGI to the government which she said is enhancing the working of the government.

According to her, the AGI has brought efficiency to the working of government since it came to Liberia about two years ago.

The President disclosed that government would shortly launch its agenda for transformation and reconciliation roadmap.
