Several groups in Gbarpolu County have endorsed the candidacy of University of Liberia Professor Alaric Tokpa for the pending special senatorial election in October.
Prof. Tokpa was recently elected to contest the senatorial election on the ticket of National Democratic Coalition (NDC).
Since his endorsement by the party, several individuals and groups including Gbarpolu University Students have publicly pledged their support to him.
The students among other things said Prof. Tokpa is the best person suited for the job, considering his experience and contribution to the manpower development of young people in Gbarpolu and Liberia at large.
According to them, Prof. Tokpa is a political advocate who has a long history of activism even during his school days at the University of Liberia.
Prof. Tokpa is a political scientist, who during 2005 election contested the presidential election as Vice Presidential candidate alongside George Klay Kieh on the ticket of the New Deal Movement.
