EC Commits US$58M To Liberia

President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has returned from Europe on a five-day official visit with news that the European Commission (EC) has committed US$58 million to Liberia.

She told journalists upon arrival Sunday that the European Commission has agreed to commit US$43 million grant to Liberia's health sector.

The President further revealed that the European Commission also announced the provision of US$15 million for macro-economic purposes.

President Johnson-Sirleaf said the EC was pleased with what Liberia has achieved over the years.

She said the European Commission wants to see Liberia continues on the path of peace and reconciliation to enable the country in its development drive.

She told journalists that as the dry season begins, it is time for her officials to roll up their sleeves and work with vigor in order to move the country in the right direction.

The President reiterated her recent warning to government officials that they should either “lead, follow or get out of the way.”

She wants officials to begin demonstrating leadership at their respective institutions to enable government succeed in developing the country.
