President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has challenged heads of government ministries and agencies to commit themselves to the effective implementation of the Agenda for Transformation, which is Liberia's new development agenda.
At the end of a two-day Cabinet retreat held in Monrovia Saturday, President Sirleaf warned cabinet ministers and heads of other government agencies to work together to ensure that the AFT is coordinated properly for long term growth and economic development in Liberia.
The Liberian Leader demanded results from the implementing agencies, saying “Time for talk is over.”
President Sirleaf also demanded quantifiable targets from heads of agencies of government, adding that government will produce a quarterly scorecard on implementation to report to the Liberian people.
The first Cabinet Retreat under the LDA at the Baptist Theological Seminary on Robertsfield highway discussed the Results Framework Matrix that contains the priority interventions planned for each sector over the five years implementation period of the development agenda. The meetings also finalized a monitoring plan to measure development results.
Among the objectives of the Retreat include developing an Action Plan to target interventions that are considered do-able in the first year of the development agenda, develop and finalize an integrated work plan of activities and resources framework to guide the implementation of the AFT in year one.
The Cabinet Retreat brought together more than two hundred (200) Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Senior Technocrats and Champions from the various line ministries, agencies, and commissions, development partners, private sector and civil society.
During the Retreat, working sessions to develop clear, fundable activities linked to the sector interventions and quarterly 90-day activities plan with estimated cost were conducted. The Monitoring &Evaluation plan was also validated at the Retreat during the Pillar and LDA Steering Committee meetings.
The LDA, which replaces the Liberia Reconstruction and Development Committee (LRDC) structure, was launched by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on January 23, 2013. The LDA is the government's most strategic forum for working with the private sector, civil society, and partners to address key issues affecting overall private sector growth and development in Liberia.
