The Ministry of Public Works and a Senegalese Company, Campagnise Sahelienne D' Entreprises (CSE), Tuesday signed a US$37.28 million contract for the pavement of the Ganta-Yekepa road in Nimba County.
ArcellorMittal-Liberia, a concession company operating in Nimba County, provided funding for upgrading the 70 KM road.
Emmanuel K. Baker, an engineer at the Ministry of Public Works said ArcellorMitttal provided US$40 million, while the Government of Liberia provided US$10 million for the pavement of the highway.
He disclosed that the partnership with ArcellorMittal supports government's initiative through the Agenda for Transformation.
For his part, Nimba County Superintendent Fong Zuagele lauded the Government of Liberia and ArcellorMitttal for living up to their commitment regarding the pavement of the road.
“For 50 years now, the road hasn't been prioritized, even though several million tons of iron ore were taken out of Yekepa by LAMCO,” he said.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Works, Oscar Cooper lauded ArcellorMittal for the road, and urged the road construction company to pay Liberian workers well.
