The Ministry of Finance says it has begun the retroactive salary payments for civil servants as mandated by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
In her annual message to the National Legislature last Monday, President Johnson Sirleaf said US$25.00 has been added to the salary of civil servants. She mandated the Finance Ministry to pay the increment retroactively as of July 1, 2012. She also instructed the Ministry of Finance to pay the salary within ten days as of January 28, 2013.
The Ministry says the Department of Expenditure and Debt Management has also rolled out the Direct Deposit Scheme in several parts of Liberia including Sinoe, Maryland, Lofa, Nimba and Bong Counties. Other areas impacted by the Scheme also include Grand Gedeh and Cape Mount counties.
According to a release, the Ministry of Finance is calling on civil servants to proceed to the commercial banks within their counties to receive their retroactive payment which is already in effect.
The Ministry says those civil servants who do not have accounts with a local bank should liaise with their respective ministries or agencies to complete the account opening process.
