A ten-year-old girl has called on the government to take children from the streets and ensure that they acquire education.
Little Mlanwein Ernies Tobina Davis said it is wrong for children to be used as bread winners for their parents.
She said government is under obligation to protect children by ensuring that they are prepared for future responsibilities.
Little Davis said “it saddens my heart to see my friends selling in the streets thereby being denied the opportunity to grow up as children and prepare themselves for the future.”
Miss Davis spoke to The NEWS following her victory in the 2012 Beauty Pageant for Cabra Estate.
She said if Liberia must have a future, the children should be given the opportunity to acquire sound and quality education as a way of preparing themselves to take over from the present generation.
Miss Cabra warned that if the children are not taken from the streets, Liberia's future could be bleak.
She wants parents to shoulder their responsibilities by ensuring that the children have conducive environment to grow up and achieve their full potentials.
Miss Davis said she was glad to have become Miss Cabra Estate 2012 and promised to go out and encourage parents to send their children to school.
According to her, the best gift a parent can give to a child is to ensure that he or she acquires education.
She admonished her fellow kids to be respectful and should take their education seriously because according to her education is the surest way for person to achieve his or her dream.
Miss Davis lauded her parents for their support and promised to always make them proud.
Miss Cabra Estate who is a 5th Grader at the Isaac A. David School vowed to contest Miss Liberia in the future.
She also predicted of becoming President of Liberia one day saying “if Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf can become President, I strongly believe I can do the same once I strive for excellence.”
