...Foreign Minister Discloses
Foreign Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has disclosed that Liberia has restored diplomatic ties with Libya.

Liberia severed diplomatic relations with Libya as a result of reported atrocities perpetrated by former President Col. Mummar Al-Kaddafi.

Prior to Liberia's pronouncement, United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who was visiting Africa called on African governments to break ties with Libya considering the inhumane treatment against the people of Libya.

Following the United States comments against Libya, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf wasted no time in announcing that Liberia had broken diplomatic ties with Libya, claiming that Col. Kaddafi has lost authority to govern his people.

Appearing on a Truth Breakfast Show yesterday, Minister Ngafuan announced that diplomatic ties have been restored between the two countries.

He said during his visit to Ethiopia, he and the Foreign Minister of Libya signed a document restoring diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Minister Ngafuan said the Libyan government is expected to accredit an envoy to Liberia to represent the country's interest.

Prior to the conflict in that country, Libya was sponsoring several projects in Liberia including the US$30 million rice project in Lofa County and the renovation of the Ducor Palace Hotel in Monrovia.

The Libyan government also promised to build a rubber processing plant in Liberia to produce finished products.
