The leadership of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has suspended for time indefinite the Chairman of its Youth League.

A release from the party said Jefferson Koijee was suspended for grave offenses found to be incompatible with the guiding principles and constitution of the party.

The party informs the public of the immediate suspension of Mr. Koijee, pending investigation, consistent with Part II of the By-Laws; Chapter I, Codes of Conduct, Rule 14 of the By-Laws and Constitution of the CDC.

Nevertheless, the leadership of the party reaffirms the immense significance of the Youth League as an integral part of the CDC's body politics, which objectives shall be to unite the youth of the land in their common struggle against marginalization and provide leadership in surmounting the problems confronting the youth, thus ensuring that they make full and meaningful contributions to the work of the CDC and the life of the nation.

However, the leadership of the CDC noted that Koijee's “thoughtless” actions betrayed the objectives mentioned above which deliberatively flouts basic 'Executive orders' decreed by the party.

The release, signed by George Solo, National Chairman of the CDC, added that serious offenses that run contrary to the established etiquette governing all members and officials of the Congress for Democratic Change will not be compromised.

The CDC urged Mr. Koijee to submit himself to the 'Grievance & Ethics Committee' to obtain a copy of his charge-sheet and may choose to exercise his inalienable right to defense and due process.

The leadership of the party cautioned Koijee to desist from actions or making utterances that could subject the institution to public inconveniences as additional measures could be contemplated to protect the governing standards of the mighty Congress for Democratic Change.

“In the interim, the CDC maintains that it will not allow the party's widening democratic space and the internal expansion of democratic pluralism to be compromised by selfish political engineering by any individual, irrespective of status or affiliation,” the release stressed.
