“Make Corruption Fight Workable”

Information Minister Lewis G. Brown has admonished the Judiciary and Legislative Branches of government to assist in making the fight against corruption workable.
Minister Brown observed that corruption is a serious undermining factor to Liberia's economic growth, stressing that corruption fight requires collective efforts.
He said as the Executive Branch strides to tackle corruption, it was critically important that the other two branches complement such effort by ensuring that there are enough instruments to fight corruption.
The Information Minster spoke Monday when he proxied for President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf at celebration of International Anti-Corruption Day.
He pointed out that the Presidency provides strategic direction and offers the moral guidance to the fight against corruption, and as such, it was important for the Legislature and Judiciary to complement the effort of the executive to make such fight workable.
He wants the Legislature to consider the passage of the Code of Conduct to ensure that people accused of corruption are dealt with.
He said as the Legislature makes these anti-corruption laws, the Judiciary must explore what he calls “outside the box option” to fast track corruption related cases.
Minister Brown, on behalf of President Sirleaf, reaffirmed the government's continued support to various anti-corruption institutions in the country.
In remarks, the Executive Chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) Cllr. Francis Johnson-Allison commended the government for its political will to the fight against corruption.
Cllr. Allison said the establishment of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission speaks to the willingness of the government to fight corruption.
The celebration of anti-corruption day provides an opportunity for all organizations and individuals worldwide to create awareness about corruption and promote anti-corruption activities.
This year's International Anti-Corruption Day was celebrated in Liberia under the theme: “War against Corruption in the Education Sector; Your No Counts.”
