The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Dr. Frederick B. Norkeh has commissioned the National Digital Migration Special Task Force of Liberia.

According to Dr. Norkeh, the special task force will design the roadmap for Liberia's smooth migration from analogue to digital terrestrial broadcasting.

He said the establishment of the National Digital Migration Special Task Force is predicated upon an International Telecommunications Union Conference held in Geneva in 2006.

The ITU conference mandates countries around the world to migrate from analogue communication to digital broadcasting as means of ensuring excellent signal propagation in the telecommunications industry and to also promote economic growth.

The National Digital Migration Special Task Force is headed by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Information is co-chairing, while the Liberia Telecommunications Authority is serving as Secretary General.

Other members of the Task Force include the Liberia Broadcasting System, Private Broadcasters, the Ministries of Finance and Commerce as well as GSM operators.

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has set June 17, 2015 as the deadline for migration from analogue to digital broadcasting in Region one which is comprised of Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Mongolia and former Soviet Union.

Meanwhile, the Liberian government through the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications is expected to join member states to celebrate African Telecommunications and Information Communication Technology (ICT) Day on Friday, December 7, 2012.
