The Gold and Diamond Dealers Association of Liberia on Wednesday provided 180 bags of the 25kg rice and 200 pieces of medical beds to Ebola patients at four hospitals in Monrovia.
The hospitals included the ELWA Hospital Ebola Treatment Unit, the John F. Kennedy Hospital Ebola Treatment Unit, Redemption Hospital and Island Clinic on Bushrod Island, outside Monrovia.
The group’s Vice President Mohammed Kanneh said it has also provided anti Ebola materials including buckets and disinfectants to several communities in Gbarpolu and Grand Cape Mount counties.
Mr. Kanneh disclosed that the donations are valued at US$10,000. In a statement at the JFK Hospital where the group provided 35 hospital beds and 50 bags of rice, Mr. Kanneh said the donation was an initial contribution from the group.
Mr. Kanneh noted that the donation was made available through contributions from the group members.
Also speaking at the ELWA Hospital, Mr. Kanneh indicated that they have decided to help because “the virus is killing us daily.”
In separate statements, Lavele Sumbo and Jackson Kai, representatives of JFK Hospital Treatment Unit and ELWA Treatment Unit respectively lauded the Gold and Diamond Dealers Association for the donation and promised the items would be used for the intended purpose.
