The Ministry of Health is appealing to its drivers demanding nine months salary to remain calm and patient as it is doing everything possible to address their claims.
A Health Ministry’s statement signed by its Communication Director Sorbor George said authorities of the ministry are currently in talks with the Ministry of Finance and donor partners to help address the situation.
The release further quoted Assistant Health Minister for Administration, John Linga as saying that the ministry officially has 75 drivers who are currently on government’s payroll.
He said the additional 123 were drivers recruited by partners during the Ebola Virus Disease crisis and the partners had left and turned them over the ministry.
The release said the Ministry has been making efforts to process them onto the GOL payroll but the process is slow and they would have to be patient.
The release further that following the departure of the NGOs, the ministry initiated a project with a fleet management group called Riders which absorbed a huge number of the drivers but later ran out of funding.
The ministry wants the drivers remain calm and patient as efforts are being made to settle their salary arrears.
