Grand Gedeh County District #2 Representative Morias Waylee stands accused of Tampering with Witnesses in the alleged rape of a child and has been charged accordingly by the Liberia National Police.
Police officers picked up Representative Waylee Thursday on allegation of raping a 13-year-old girl, who is believed to be his niece.
Colleagues and lawyers of Representative Waylee were locked up in a meeting With Inspector General Gregory Coleman at the LNP Headquarters late Thursday evening to secure his temporary release from custody.
A source told this paper that some lawmakers including George Mulbah, Zoe Pennue, and Tokpa Mulbah are pressuring the police to release suspect Waylee from custody.
Suspect Waylee is said to have tampered with relatives including the mother, who could serve as witnesses in the alleged rape of the minor.
The police said it has gathered all evidence for which the suspected lawmaker is charged with Tampering with witnesses in the alleged rape of the child.
It is not known whether suspect Waylee will be temporarily released but the source confided in this paper that the lawmaker will be sent to court today for prosecution. Rep. Waylee allegedly committed the crime of rape in Monrovia.
As a result of the act, the 13-year-old girl got impregnated. The family has remained silent since the incident occurred and even those who want to tell the truth, are continuously suspicious of whom they are talking to.
