The National Imam Council of Liberia Sunday celebrated its annul Maulud (prophet’s birthday) program with a call for Liberians to be tolerance.
Delivering his annual Maulud message, the National Chief Imam of Liberia Sheikh Ali Krayee said it is important for the people of Liberia to exhibit high degree of tolerance so as to maintain peace and stability.
He said like Prophet Muhammad, Liberians need to be tolerance, irrespective of political, social, and religious ideology.
Sheikh Krayee said though prophet Muhammad was a Muslim, but he was always tolerance to Christians evidence by the fact he hosted Christian delegation in the Mosque.
He said it is time for the people of Liberia to put aside prejudice and be tolerance of one another.
The National Chief Imam reiterated that Islam is a religion of peace, unity and progress, and not of violent as being perceived in some quarters.
Sheikh Krayee told the gathering that it is important to celebrate Muhammad’s birthday considering the great job he did for humanity.
He argued that there is no one who has done great done for the benefit of humanity equal to Muhammad, as such, the Council decided to celebrate his birthday.
Sheikh Krayee explained that prophet Muhammad took the children of Allah from darkness to light, for which he is worthy to be praised.
“We do not celebrate his birthday to drink liquor; we do not celebrate his birthday to fornicate; we do not celebrate his birthday to dance with women, but we celebrate him for the world to know him; he redeemed us,” he added.
He clarified that majority of Sunni Muslims celebrate Mohammed’s birthday not just Shia Muslims as was recently rumored.
