Representative Edwin Snowe of District #6 in Montserrado County has been in the media for weeks pointing accusing fingers at President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and her son Robert Sirleaf for corruption in Liberia's oil and gas sector. The verbal attacks come in the wake of Representative Snowe's interest in an oil deal with a Russian company, GAZPROM, but did not get the approval of the Executive Branch of government.

The Reported Disapproval by the Executive apparently infuriated Representative Snowe, leaving him with no option but to lash at the President and her son publicly. At a well attended press conference hosted by Representative Snowe on October 30, 2012, the lawmaker called for the immediate resignation of Mr. Sirleaf from the National Oil Company as Board Chairman.

Representative Snowe Further called for the prosecution of Mr. Robert Sirleaf on grounds that he possesses dual citizenship with the United States of America and Liberia. Snowe also expressed anger claiming that he was left out under the palava hut when he and representatives from GAZPROM went to meet President Sirleaf at her private residence.

However, Having Made these grim allegations against President Sirleaf and her son, the Honorable man, couple of days ago, reportedly somersaulted by reacting to his own statement that many believed was authored based on facts and truthfulness. Representative Snowe claimed that all of the allegations against the President and her son were based on lies and gossip. He indicated that his earlier comments were unwarranted and promised not to discuss government matters in the media, but rather hold consultations.

We Are Concerned about the latest tongue twisting by Representative Snowe in which, many Liberians believe has created credibility problem for himself. As a representative of the people and a senior official of government, he needed to have had second thought before making such grave allegations against prominent individuals like the President and her son, knowing that his facts were incorrect. Should the Honorable be trusted with anything in this country? Was Snowe coerced by his fraternity to revoke his statement or was this a publicity stunt master-minded by powerful people in officialdom?

We Are Baffled and disappointed in the way and manner Representative Snowe presented falsehood to the public. The unceremonious reversal of his testimony is a clear indication that Mr. Snowe has betrayed the trust and confidence of the Liberian people; and therefore, should not be trusted.

We Believe That Representative Snowe has damaged his political career by publicly declaring that he told lies against President Sirleaf and her son which is a convincing ground for litigation against the lawmaker. It also means that hereafter whatever Mr. Snowe says to the people of Liberia, he will not be considered as a serious-minded man.

It Is Our desire to see our representatives who will keep their reputations intact, morality on course and desist from gossip. Representative Snowe should not be taken seriously on any issue because he lacks the moral and political authority to maintain that steadfastness at the first branch of government.
