The Greater Monrovia Lions Club has donated at least twenty mattresses to the Liberia School for the blind in Virginia, outside Monrovia.
Marking the presentation, the President of the Greater Monrovia Lions Club, Lioness Eva David Reed said the donation was prompted by a visit at the School of the Blind last year.
Lioness Reed said during their visit, they observed that several things were needed at the institution. She said students of the institution were sleeping on torn up mattresses and hard board.
She said the club also noticed that the building hosting the institution needed some renovation work for which they did an assessment for the renovation, but they were told that government has started the renovation work.
Receiving the mattresses on behalf of the school, the Vice Principal Eve Nyfort thanked the Greater Monrovia Lions Club for the donation.
She said the donation was a great help, and outlined some other needs for the school, such as a six classroom building. The Vice Principal said transportation is also needed because the school is a boarding school and will help transport students and employees who will fall sick at night.
Meanwhile, the Greater Monrovia Lions Club has committed itself to help build the six classroom school annex.
