…In Bong County
A prominent son of Bong County has declared his intention to contest the senatorial by-election in the county.
Dr. Henrique Flomo Tokpa said he is contesting the senatorial seat to provide leadership and foster development in Bong County.
A release quotes Dr. Tokpa as saying, he is not contesting the senatorial position for mere title or to earn money, but rather he wants the opportunity to serve his people by giving them the needed representation at the senate as was provided them over the years by Senator Jewel Howard Taylor, now Vice President-elect of Liberia.
The former Cuttington University President, now Internal Affairs Minister, is meanwhile warning his detractors, who are spreading falsehood about his inability to contest due to the illness of his wife to desist.
He noted that spreading such falsehood will not help them nor discourage the people of Bong County of electing who they feel can ably represent them in the senate.
Dr. Tokpa urged his compatriots who have intention to contest the by-election in Bong County to be civil and desist from preaching divisive politics.
The vacancies in the Liberian Senate were created as a result of the election of Senators George Weah of Montserrado County as president-elect and Jewel Howard Taylor of Bong County as Vice President-elect.
Dr. Tokpa came second in the 2014 special senatorial election for Bong County which was won by Senator Taylor.
