… As Running Mate
By Alloycious David
The Political Leader of Liberty Party (LP) Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine on Saturday named former Forestry Development Authority (FDA) Managing Director, Harrison S. Karnwea, as his running mate for the 2017 Presidential and Legislative elections.
Karnwea, a native of Nimba County in northern Liberia, was selected by the party’s standard bearer and subsequently elected overwhelmingly by delegates who attended the party’s special meeting held on Saturday in Saclepae, Nimba County.
Mr. Karnwea, a former superintendent of Nimba County and Minister of Internal Affairs, resigned recently from the ruling Unity Party and joined opposition Liberty Party.
Brumskine said his selection of Karnwea was based on recommendations from a committee set-up by the party to search for a suitable running mate that will bring victory, not only to LP, but to the country.
Amidst repeated jubilations, Cllr. Brumskine declared: “It is my pleasing duty to announce to you that Nimba County has been selected to produce the next vice president of the Republic of Liberia, and therefore, it is my honor to inform Liberia that the honorable Harrison Karnwea has been selected as my running mate”.
In a brief statement, Karnwea accepted to run on Liberty Party’s ticket as vice standard bearer and promised to work ‘overtime’ to ensure that the party gets elected in 2017.
He said “by this acceptance here, now and today, my intent and desire for the vice standard bearer position of the Liberty Party are hereby created and expressed.”
Mr. Karnwea told the partisans that he will along with LP political leader, Cllr. Brumskine and all of them to canvass for votes when campaign kicks off, so that the party can effectively and efficiently challenge all other political parties in the October 2017 elections.
“Sincerely speaking, I see no ticket so unifying than our ticket that sends out a clear message that united we stand and divided we fall. I see no ticket deserving victory than our ticket. I see no ticket that will be easily entrusted with the future of this country than our ticket,” Karnwea said amidst applause.
Karnwea indicated that in their ticket he sees a Liberia on the best and proper trajectory for progress and development.
“On our ticket, I see giants and warriors in the war to effectively minimize corruption,” the former FDA Boss reiterated.
Continuing, Karnwea observed that on LP’s ticket for 2017,he sees patriots with the mind and heart to put Liberia first.
“I can say this ticket is a vote magnet that will attract votes to push the LP leadership forward in the election,” Karnwea bragged.
He said he feels strongly that the re-election of UP will be a wrong message that Liberians want to maintain their country as it is.
“I refuse to accept that Liberians will be satisfied with giving our country to one party for 24 consecutive years or more in the spirit of acceptance of superficial reforms against a transformative agenda that brings about serious systematic positive changes for Liberia’s progress which the Liberty party stands for,” Karnwea said.
